George joined CFA in 1996 and is currently employed as a Project Manager with particular responsibility for providing archaeological consultancy advice.
George is responsible for managing and directing a full range of projects and is involved in both excavation and survey fieldwork. He has conducted numerous watching briefs and evaluations on behalf of CFA’s clients, many of which have developed into excavation projects. He has, for example, been responsible for the direction and supervision of excavations including that of an Iron Age roundhouse and souterrain on the Isle of Arran during 2000 and, in 2002, of a suite of late-medieval buildings at Dalmeny, Midlothian. He has also undertaken numerous reconnaissance field surveys on behalf of clients, including Scottish Woodlands, Scottish Hydro-Electric and Highland Region Council. In 1998 he participated in a major, 400 km, coastal erosion survey along the Moray and Cromarty Firths on behalf of Historic Scotland.
Currently George is engaged in undertaking Environmental Impact Assessments on behalf of various clients for windfarm development proposals throughout Scotland. He has contributed Cultural Heritage chapters to 14 Environmental Statements for wind energy developments and acts as archaeological consultant to a sustainablity advisor to the MoD for a variety of military base redevelopments in Scotland and northern England. |
