Kevin has worked professionally as illustrator and excavator on archaeological projects in Britain and the Middle East since his graduation in 1989. Prior to joining CFA he worked as freelance Illustrator producing high quality publication and exhibition illustration for Museums, Architects and London based publishers on subjects as varied as medical, zoological, botanical and natural history. He has extensive experience in the presentation of information graphics to a non-specialist audience producing interpretative material for use in a variety of contexts from exhibitions and on-site display panels in the UK to bilingual tourist displays and trail-leaflets for multinational audiences in the Middle East. His archaeological experience includes work with institutions such as The British Museum, Oxford University, Wessex Archaeology, Sydney University, the German Protestant Institute in Amman, The American Center Of Oriental Research and The University of Edinburgh.
Kevin joined CFA as Senior Illustrator at the start of 1994, and currently manages all CFA's graphic and illustrative material. In addition he has special responsibility for the development and integration of GIS and CAD, technical specialisms which CFA have successfully developed in partnership with commercial clients for many years. He continues to work on a wide variety of projects from small-scale evaluations, landscape and historic building surveys to large-scale mapping for Environmental Impact Assessments and Coastal Zone Assessments. In addition to working on most of CFA's road and pipeline projects Mr Hicks has worked as Cartographer to the Scottish Burgh Survey being conducted by the University of Edinburgh for Historic Scotland. Kevin has successfully completed a course with English Heritage on the metric survey of historic buildings and is also qualified in AutoCAD and MapInfo GIS.
Kevin actively participates in the wider aspects of graphics and illustration, designing for book covers, advertising and leaflets for conferences around Scotland and the UK. He has also volunteered with the Council for Scottish Archaeology and the Young Archaeologists Club.
