Sam joined CFA in January 2003 as a site assistant and has since been promoted to the position of Field Officer. She has carried out a broad spectrum of projects which have covered a wide range of chronologies. Previous to joining CFA she carried out several projects as a student including two seasons of excavation at a Roman industrial area in Italy. She has previously worked for GUARD and Headland as well as Time Team.
As a Field Officer for CFA, Sam carries out a wide range of tasks and is responsible for running projects in the field. She has conducted a range of evaluations, watching briefs and walkover reconnaissance surveys. She has been involved with major coastal erosion surveys on the Clyde, Bute, Arran and Kintyre on behalf of Historic Scotland. In 2004 she co-directed excavations on Traprain Law which were designed to assess the damage inflicted by recent fires on this monument. She has been involved with numerous exacavations including that of an Iron Age settlement near Ardownie in Angus. She has carried out many walkover surveys for windfarms including Mellock Hill near Kinross, Rothes Hill near Elgin and Longpark near Stow in the Scottish Borders. She was also involved with work for the laying of the Aberdeen to Lochside Natural Gas Pipeline. This included a walkover survey of the whole route and a watching brief which monitored the ground breaking operations for the entire route and identified several large archaeological sites. She has produced numerous technical reports for clients.
Currently, as well as field work, Sam carries out many desk-based assessments involving the collation of data and the creation of baseline information for projects. She is also involved with the production of Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Statements and scoping reports as well as technical reports. |
